Sanuk is a company that specializes in casual footwear. They like to put new spins on classic styles like slip-ons, clogs, and sandals. One of the most popular shoes they produce is their flip-flops, which are meant for all-day wear because they’re so comfortable. In this post we’ll look at how to wash Sanuks.
The only downside is that these shoes can get dirty if you don’t take care of them properly! This article will give you some tips on how to wash your Sanuks in order to make sure your investment stays clean and fresh for years to come!
Washing Sanuks In The Washer
Below are instructions for you (or your maid) to wash your Sanuk shoes in the washer. Struggling with keeping your shoes clean after a long day at the beach? Have no fear we have you covered!
Here is what you will need:
- Sanuk Shoes – Try not to wear them during this process, it’s much easier if they are new and clean.
- White Vinegar – You can use this for multiple things around the house, so it’s worth having some handy.
- Dish Soap – Some like Dawn or Palmolive for grease cleaning.
- Water Hot Enough To Turn The Tub On/Warm Enough To Kill Bacteria
- A Laundry Bag or Large Garbage Bag
- 2 Rubber Gloves
- 1 Hairbrush or Hard Bristled Brush for scrubbing
Here’s what you do:
Pour 2 cups of white vinegar into the washer. Add your shoes to the bag. Add 1/2 cup of dish soap. Run a wash cycle with warm water and add 1/4 cup more soap if needed since Sanuks are made out of canvas you will want to make sure they get cleaned thoroughly!
After washing dump the soapy water and run another regular cycle without any soap just hot water (no shoes). Rinse again.
Next, run an empty washbag on the high spin – this is to completely dry out your shoes so that there isn’t a risk of mold growing in them.
Once everything has dried out, give them a quick once-over with a brush. Do not use shoe trees or leave them in the bag!
How to clean smelly Sanuks?
Step by step guide on how to clean smelly Sanuk shoes:
- Wash off your Sanuks with water; use a brush if you can; try to remove the stubborn dirt and any other foreign objects.
- Place them in the sun for one whole day, [if possible place something heavy on top of it (eg: your Mac) so as not to blow away]
- After 24 hours, turn your shoes over and wash off the outer sole side with water again, make sure that no foreign object is left inside your sandals like small stones or gravels, etc.
- After washing off all the external dirt and after allow your Sanuks to dry naturally in the sun.
- Now rub your Sanuks with vinegar (you can use a brush to make it more effective); this will help remove the bad odor.
- Let them dry again in the sun for 2 days.
- After 2 days, everything should be OK and that sweet vinegar smell is gone! now you have fresh smelling sandals again 🙂
How to get stains out of Sanuks?
- Remove any excess dirt by rubbing the affected area of the shoe with a CLEAN cloth. DO NOT use water or soap!
- Mix equal parts white distilled vinegar and warm water in a bowl. DO NOT APPLY TO THE SHOE UNTIL THE CHEMICAL AND GROUNDS ARE MIXED PROPERLY! The mixture should be able to run freely off of a wet finger when poured out of the bowl. If it doesn’t then add more vinegar (1/2 cup at a time) until it reaches that consistency. Once you have reached this point, continue reading step 3.
- DAMPEN A CLOTH WITH THE ACIDIC MIXTURE AND USE THAT SOAKED CLOTH TO GENTLY EXFOLIATE THE SOILED AREA. If the stain is stubborn you can repeat this process multiple times until the stain is removed.
- Once finished, allow the Sanuk Shoes to air dry and then apply a very slight amount of leather conditioner to the affected area using your finger. Allow it to soak into the material for 10 minutes before wiping off with a dry cloth (if necessary).
- Enjoy your clean shoes! 🙂
